Green urban playground
This living art installation was created for an event by DRIFT (Dutch Research Institute for Transitions) as part of NL2120, under the title “How can nature in and around our cities become a valuable ally for healthcare?”.
This interactive space invited visitors to explore their personal relationship with nature through simple, sensory acts: observing the resilience of life between the stones, touching the soil and learning about the lifeforms within and above. Participants answered two questions “How do you care for nature? How does nature care for you? ” and inscribed their reflections on bricks, gradually building a symbolic bridge between care and ecology. Along the way, more than 30 species could be discovered along with their (former) use in healthcare and their ecological role in the system.
This installation made space for slowness, attention, and wonder. Reminding us that nature is not only in distant forests, but also underfoot, in cracks, shadows, and weeds.
Our ocean
During World Ocean Day 2025, Rafael collaborated with visitors at the Universiteitsmuseum Utrecht to create a collective artwork. Using plastic waste collected from the streets and paint, participants visualised the many ways we interact with the ocean across its different layers. The piece highlights both the diversity of species in the ocean and anthropogenic impact The completed artwork is currently on display at Utrecht University, in the Vening Meineszgebouw A.
