Delft Blue shows the rich history of the city of Delft. As I live and work in this city I observe the historic remnants, see the current state and witness the changes.

In 2023 I won in the Dutch TV-show “De Nieuwe Vermeer” with my artwork “Vermeer’s Bakery”. I combined the current city and its inhabitants with the city from the 17th century. The current city is visible in the traditional blue, whereas the historic image is in color. In this way historic and current Delft come together in one image. It is very likely that Vermeer bought his bread in the same street as I do. During the last years of his life he could not pay for his bread. His debt was paid off with two of his paintings. 

Since then I have made multiple artworks of the city of Delft combining the technique of cyanotype with gouache. Most of these have similar historic stories. In “Two Egyptian Geese” I showed how this invasive species enriches the typical Delft landscape. They have had several successful broods in the tree in front of the Oostpoort.
