In 2021 I finished  a series of 6 oil paintings to tell the story of sidewalk plants. For this project I worked together with the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden. A wide variety of plant species flower between tiles and bricks. They help to retain water, cool down the city and attract insects and birds. It is a shame that hardly anyone notices them, as they have such an important ecological role and are often very beautiful as well!

Each painting shows a different type of pavement, with their own plants that break the geometrical pattern. To restore our balance with nature it is time to let nature grow again. Humans have become very proficient at deciding which types of nature are allowed to grow on a certain spot. This has disturbed the natural dynamic balance within ecosystems.

On September 25th and 26th 2021 the paintings were on show in the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden during the Kunstroute Leiden

The paintings are available for 2950,– each (framed).
